CEO Update – December 2020 Welcome to the December edition of Making Waves, rounding off what has been tumultuous year for us all. Despite this, I am pleased to report plenty of successes and progress in 2020: We maintained full business continuity during all COVID lockdowns, and in fact the Secretariat has been working fully remotely since 13 March. The IT systems have worked very well and there has been no interruption in service to our Members. The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) is supporting the Seafarers Delivering Christmas campaign, highlighting both the ongoing crew change crisis created by the pandemic and critical work of seafarers and offshore workers in keeping economies running (and gifts arriving) this Christmas. Hundreds of thousands of seafarers are currently stranded onboard and have been for many months. Others have found themselves unable to join their vessels resulting in a subsequent loss of income. IMCA supports International Anti-Corruption Day – 9 December 2020

The International Marine Contractor’s Association (IMCA) recognises and supports the United Nations (UN) International Anti-Corruption Day which falls on 9 December. This year’s campaign entitled “Recover with integrity” aims to raise awareness of the risks of the increased potential for bribery and corruption brought about by, for instance, any  changes in government funding, trading volumes, and other activities in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. IMCA’s Diving Supervisors’ CPD App to be made mandatory from 2021 – fourth 2020 Knowledge Unit now available

In launching the fourth knowledge unit for its App-based Diving Supervisors’ continuing professional development (CPD) scheme, the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has issued a reminder that the scheme will be mandatory from early 2021. The App incorporates the latest in training techniques to support Diving Supervisors in keeping up to date with current safety information and guidelines from IMCA. IMCA Publishes “Guidelines for Walk to Work Operations”

Diver Safety: IMCA and ADCI work together to achieve US Coast Guard Recognition

A Policy Letter ‘Commercial Diving Operations – Equivalent Levels of Safety’ published by the United States Coast Guard (USCG) was issued in October and applies to all USCG regulated vessels operating anywhere in the world.
