IMCA Safety, Environmental Sustainability and COVID Initiatives Awards: The Winners
The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has announced the winners of its 2020 Safety, Environmental Sustainability, and COVID-19 Pandemic Initiative Awards. Jumbo Offshore won the Safety Award for their ‘Mind Saving Rules’ with both Heerema and Siemens Gamesa shortlisted – the former for ‘Unmanned Topside Installation’ and the latter for their work on immersion suits during Crew Transfer Vessel (CTV) transfers. Saipem was the winner of the Environmental Sustainability Award for the ‘Carbon Footprint’ programme with three other entrants shortlisted – Heerema for ‘Shore Power Caland Canal’; Solstad for ‘Solstad Green Operations’; and TechnipFMC for ‘Environmental Sustainability Initiatives’. IMCA signs Neptune Declaration on Seafarers Wellbeing & Crew Change
The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has joined more than 450 companies and organisations around the world by signing the Neptune Declaration on Seafarer Wellbeing and Crew Change in a worldwide call to action to end the unprecedented crew change crisis caused by COVID-19. Launched to coincide with the World Economic Forum in Davos at the end of January, signatories to the Declaration are seeking to draw the world’s attention to the humanitarian issues and challenges seafarers are facing because of the restrictions implemented by Governments to control the COVID-19 pandemic. Rebrand of Contracts & Insurance committee
The Contracts & Insurance Committee has recently been rebranded to ‘Legal, Contracts, Insurance & Compliance’ (LCIC).The aim is to expand the participation of the Committee to include the Renewable energy players and widen the remit of the Committee to also address Anti-bribery, Corruption, Compliance as well as Contracts & Insurance.The Committee will establish specialist Working Groups under the parent committee to work on specific issues.

COVID-19 Update: International Investors Call on UN for Actions to protect Seafarers
The Maritime Executive – January 2021A group of 85 institutional investors representing over $2 trillion in assets, joined forces calling on the United Nations to take further action to address the ongoing humanitarian crisis for seafarers brought on by the global restrictions enacted to control the coronavirus. In an open letter to the UN Secretary-General, the investors in consultation with key marine organizations such as the International Labor Organisation and the International Transport Workers’ Federation added their voice to the call to recognize seafarers as key workers and specific actions to ensure crews’ health and safety while maintaining global trade.Click here

Ensuring eCMID and eMISW inspection integrity
The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA)’s Marine eCMID Committee considered the potential for remote vessel inspections at its December 2020 meeting, in light of ongoing restrictions at both national and company level due to COVID-19 that can limit both vessel access and the movement of accredited vessel inspectors (AVIs).The Committee determined that remote inspections using the eCMID/eMISW inspection templates would not be appropriate.
