Environmental sustainability and the energy transition are fundamental to long-term value creation for the offshore marine contracting industry. In recognition of this, and to help improve environmental performance, a dedicated workgroup was formed under the auspices of the Environmental Sustainability Committee, with oversight of the IMCA Board, to develop a Code of Practice on Environmental Sustainability.
For the past four months, the workgroup consisting of international contractors, global contractors and contractors have held 6 workgroup, 20 subgroup meetings and multiple bilateral meetings and worked together to develop a foundational document for the offshore marine contracting industry on environmental sustainability. The Code considered by the Environmental Sustainability Committee on 11 March 2021 who approved and endorsed the final version and agreed it can be issued for review.

The Code focuses specifically on good working practices related to environmental sustainability, bringing together knowledge and Member experiences, and highlighting new developments. It affirms IMCA’s commitment to environmental sustainability, including climate change, and provides practical guidance for Members and our industry. It sets the bar on the most significant environmental expectations of our industry and on management of key environmental interactions associated with offshore marine contracting. Key areas covered include emissions reduction, energy efficiency, life below water and waste management and the circular economy, as well as supply chain engagement and reporting. Following its publication, IMCA will also look to produce supplementary guidance to support members.
Now that the final version has been produced we are keen to share our document with the wider membership for their feedback. We would welcome views on the Code from the IMCA membership across regions and membership categories. Please share any feedback by answering the questions in our online survey. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Thank you in advance for sharing your views and helping us to finalise it. The survey closed on 7 April 2021.
