- Highest number of reports on DP Station Keeping events since Reporting Scheme began
- Date for DP Practitioner Accreditation Scheme announced
The International Marine Contractors Association’s (IMCA) Captain Andy Goldsmith, Technical Adviser – Marine, will reveal the findings of the 2018 IMCA DP Station Keeping Reporting Scheme, and details of its DP Practitioner Accreditation Scheme at the European Dynamic Positioning Conference today (5 February) in London.
Latest results from the DP Station Keeping Reporting Scheme
In 2018, IMCA received the highest number of reports on DP Station Keeping events since the scheme began in 1990. Compared with 2017, there was a 50% increase on the number of reports received and the number of vessels taking part increased by 33%.
IMCA’s Technical Adviser – Marine, Captain Andy Goldsmith, will say: “For the second year running, participation in the scheme has increased significantly. This is recognition that the
industry acknowledges the importance of sharing data as a preventative measure of DP incidents and that this leads to safer and more efficient operations of DP vessels.”
The data has been published in IMCA’s ‘Dynamic Positioning Station Keeping Review: Incidents and events reported for 2018′ (IMCA M 248).
DP Practitioner Accreditation Scheme
Andy Goldsmith will also inform conference delegates about the new IMCA DP Practitioner Accreditation Scheme.
The scheme will give confidence that DP practitioners attending vessels for trials and personnel conducting DP assurance duties are qualified to the IMCA standard. Gaining and maintaining accreditation will also assist practitioners to increase their knowledge base.
Two categories of personnel will be eligible for the scheme – a DP Trials and Assurance Practitioner and a Company DP Authority. To be eligible for accreditation, applicants require a specified level of relevant certification, experience and knowledge. Following acceptance of the initial criteria, they will be required to sit a multiple-choice examination.
Andy Goldsmith will say: “This will improve the consistency and conduct of DP trials, and set an expected level of knowledge for DP practitioners.”
The application process for the IMCA DP Practitioner Accreditation Scheme will open on 1 May 2019.
