Jason Veerasingam, Director of Client Engagement – Asia-Pacific invited to Netherlands Maritime University College

Regarding his visit to NMCU in Malaysia, Jason notes:

I am humbled by the warmth and kind hospitality rendered for the visit held earlier today.  

Thank you for inviting me and sharing the current activities, facilities and future plans of NMUC on related training services that you offer to the offshore marine community.

We had a number of topics and issues that was discussed. I wish to summarise the salient points below:

1. ROV pilot training level 1 and 2  – https://www.nmuc.edu.my/training-consultancy/rov-training/

• Students are recruited and funded by the grants provided by the government agency ( MARA). Batches of 20 students have been trained.
• The simulation facility where students use to  get their hands on virtual exposure and training was impressive.
• The class room lab with various parts of an ROV put into a physical dashboard helps a newbie get the right understanding of the works of an typical ROV – simple and practical.
• The workshop where trainee gets to dismantle an ROV undertake simple maintenance ( eg. thrusters) and electrics. The action to be taken to trouble shoot is also simulated for them to be exposed of what to do when in real work situation offshore.

2. T2 ROV Course Assessment – NMUC has indicated their interest to take up the T2- ROV course approval assessment procedure.
   NUMC is to write to IMCA – Andre Rose / Jason to organise a meeting to get a better understanding on the whole process for this procedure.

3. DP Operator Training – https://www.nmuc.edu.my/training-consultancy/dpo-training/
   Presently NUMC sends it Trainees to Singapore working in collaboration with Lerus training  – https://www.lerus.com.sg/

4. Diving
   NUMC is presently in discussion with a diving training organisation to explore collaboration and potentially setting up diver training in Johor.

5. Future support from IMCA – A brief introduction to IMCA and member benefits was presented. There is now awareness on the benefits and support IMCA can render.

In summary – I was impressed by the committed and organisation of the facility to deliver the training to local Malaysians. There is now enquiry from regional countries and NUMC is being selective to ensure trainees attend the courses for the right intent and purpose and not to use the entry into the course to enter into the country.
