Taiwanese delegation gets safety best practice at HM Coastguard

On Monday 12 June, IMCA hosted a delegation of officials from the Taiwanese government.
The group, made up of maritime safety experts and representatives working in offshore wind, joined Iain Grainger, IMCA CEO and Rhys Jones, Technical Adviser – Maritime, for a tour of the joint response unit of HM Coastguard in Fareham, Hampshire, UK.
As well as a guided tour of the facility and its impressive command centre – which coordinates the coastguard’s response to emergencies across the South East of England overseeing between 2,000 and 5,000 vessels a day – the delegation also heard from Pete Lawson, Offshore Energy Lead of HM Coastguard, on recent safety incidents relating to offshore wind.
From IMCA, Rhys Jones spoke on safety from an industry perspective, how the offshore sector approaches the issue, as well as the importance of cross sector collaboration to improving safety performance.

Iain Grainger, IMCA CEO, presented to delegates on our activity in the area to date, including our dedicated China Sea focal group, and shared how IMCA is working with regulators, safety bodies, and coastguards across the globe to collaborate on safety standards and procedures.
Iain Grainger said: “Visits like these are vital to sharing best practice learned from decades of experience in improving offshore safety and demonstrates the key role IMCA can play in facilitating the improvement of standards and approaches across the globe.”
