Two days of IMCA events in Vietnam

Published on 8 July 2015

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has programmed two days of events in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam on 22 and 23 July. The first sees an afternoon’s ‘Vietnam Briefing’ open to IMCA members, and non-members including oil company representatives, contractors, consultants and all interested in the work of IMCA. The second combines the meeting of IMCA’s Asia-Pacific Section with an open session looking at key issues including competition law policy, IMCA activity worldwide, the Common Marine Inspection Document (CMID), regulatory update and presentations.

“It is going to be a busy two days,” explains Jane Bugler, IMCA’s Technical Director and Acting Chief Executive.”This will be our second meeting in Vietnam, the last one being held in 2010. Our afternoon session on 22 July will be a briefing session to introduce IMCA to companies active in the Vietnamese marine contracting sector; we hope that many will take the opportunity to join us at this free event being held at the Sheraton Hotel & Towers in Ho Chi Minh City.

“Chaired by Ken Livingstone of Technip, who is the IMCA Asia-Pacific Section Chairman, we will be providing information on many aspects of our work. Presentations will include ‘IMCA and its technical and legislative activities: the work of IMCA in its core activities and technical divisions’ (Peter Sieniewicz, IMCA); ‘The benefits and challenges of joining IMCA’ (Ngo Kuan Hung, Petro Vietnam Manpower Training College); ‘Diver training and competence assessment – a case study’ (Darren Brunton, KB Associates); ‘Marine guidance for safe marine operations’ (Mike Meade, M3 Marine); ‘How Neptune Geomatics uses IMCA Offshore Survey guidance’ (Jason French, Neptune Geomatics); and ‘Safe offshore operations’ (Phil Slowther, Fugro).

She adds:”Then on 23 July after our initial Section meeting, open only to voting members; our open meeting starts at 10:00 with a world-wide update on the work of IMCA’s two core and four technical divisions; a presentation on ‘CMID – Countdown to V9 and Accredited Vessel Inspectors’; and an international regulatory update.

“After a networking lunch there will be three presentations. Dr Cormac ? Laoire of Andrew Moore and Associates will speak on ‘Battery energy storage systems in the maritime industry’; he will be followed by Ngo Kuan Hung who will speak on ‘Challenges in developing the offshore sector in Vietnam’; with the final speak of the day being Mike Meade on ‘The difficulties and challenges of building a new diving support vessel (DSV).

“Yes, two packed sessions, but we are eager to cover as much ground as we possibly can! There will be networking opportunities on both days, this is always an integral part of IMCA events.”
