Safety Statistics: help tell the story of our industry
Published on 7 December 2023
As in previous years, contractor Members are being asked to submit safety statistics for 2023 for inclusion in IMCA’s analysis. Results are completely anonymised ahead of publication.
The exercise forms a key part of IMCA’s safety work, allowing us to explore trends, analyse data, and compare performance with other stakeholder groups working offshore or in energy production. Most importantly, it ensures that any emerging safety issues are identified as early as possible and can allow pre-emptive steps to be taken.
Your company’s involvement ensures that your organisation is proactively playing its part in helping the industry as a whole to continue to improve both performance and safety.
IMCA has been collecting and publishing industry safety statistics since 1997 with the dataset containing anonymised submissions from our contractor members worldwide. The safety statistics compiled by IMCA in 2022 showed improving trends returning across the major indices.

Contact
Members have asked us to collect data on time lost through occupational illness – two examples would be heat stroke, and decompression illness in divers. This year, therefore, we will be asking contractors to inform us, as they already do with LTI categories, if any incidents they had were caused by occupational illness.
Commenting on the opening of the submission window, Nick Hough, Safety Consultant at IMCA said: “Safety is at the heart of everything we do at IMCA, and the collection of statistics is key to providing a base from which we can measure our collective performance and deliver ongoing improvements. Together we can pave the way for a safer and more resilient future for everyone involved in offshore energy production.”
“Thanks in advance to every Member who participates, especially to new contributors sharing their information with IMCA for the first time.”
How to get involved
Getting involved is easy. The window for submissions for IMCA Members will open on 1 January 2024.
- Contractor Members and Workboat Members will be able to submit until April 2024 on our website.
- Once sufficient Members have submitted data and we have statistical meaningful figures, the findings will be published in the Safety section on our website.
- Your data/information will only be viewable to yourself and those with your company login details.
- If this is the first time you are submitting data on behalf of a Member company, you will have to set up an account on our website first. Please use your work email address which should be automatically recognised by our systems.
