ProjectGHG: A new campaign to support Members on their decarbonisation journey

Published on 8 February 2024

IMCA has launched a new campaign, ProjectGHG, which will bring Members together to explore the solutions to meeting ambitions for Net Zero Greenhouse Gas emissions by 2050.

A new online hub has been launched at the IMCA website which pulls together related technical documents, industry commentary, along with details on the latest on the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO’s) targets for Net Zero shipping.

To support this activity, a new Greenhouse Gasses (GHG) focal group has been established to drive the publication of related content and develop the tools to support Members to take positive steps towards the sector’s 2050 goal and improve their approach and management of GHGs.

A series of Briefing Papers and Information Notes will be published over the coming weeks and months exploring related topics such as, fuel consumption, emission reporting standards, taxation, finance, and workforce training. A forward-looking White Paper on changing client expectations and emissions will also be published. Our first Information Note explores the range of Industry decarbonisation initiatives and resources (IMCA IN 1659).

IMCA will bring the industry together on Wednesday 10 April 2024 at our ProjectGHG Forum in Papendrecht, Netherlands, which is kindly being hosted by Board Member Boskalis.

More details on speakers will be shared soon, but the Secretariat-led Forum will explore the changing regulatory framework, shifting client expectations, showcase inspirational best-practice from Members, as well as create a vital space for industry debate on the solutions required – notably around alternative fuels. Whether business decision maker or technical lead, attendance is essential.

Organisations interested in becoming involved in the programme are invited to come forward.

In recent commentary on GHGs on our website, Iain Grainger, CEO, IMCA, said: “The course chartered is clear. Together we will need to find the solutions for a dramatic and transformative change in approach. IMCA – once again – stands ready to support its Members adapt to a changing world and new expectations. We hope you will be able to join us and play your part.”
