The Asia-Pacific Section of the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) will hold one of its regular section meetings in Kuala Lumpur at the Impiana KLCC Hotel on Thursday 27 February, members and non-members alike are welcome to the meeting which will include three enlightening presentations and two workshops. The meeting, which includes a networking lunch is open to members and non-members alike. Registration at events@legacy.imca-int.com ahead of the event is essential.
The open meeting is scheduled for 10:00 for 10:30 with coffee prior to the start of formal proceedings. Competition law policy is the first item on the agenda, which will be followed by a world-wide update on IMCA’s core activity and technical divisions; an international regulatory update will then be given, and followed by un-minuted discussion of recent safety-related incidents.
The first presentation ‘IMCA Contracts & Insurance Principles’ will be delivered before the lunch break by Barbara de Roo of Heerema Marine Contractors. Following the lunch there will be presentations on ‘DCI (decompression illness) Incident’ by Steve Macmillan of McDermott International Inc; and ‘Protecting Reputation in Crisis’ by Toby Ingram of Helix Media who will look at how traditional and social media can impact outcomes, and at strategies to manage and influence both.
“Our section meetings enable people to actively network and listen to the challenges others have risen to, and determine how best to deal with them should they experience something similar,” explains Chris Charman, Chief Executive of IMCA.”Sharing experiences, and using that knowledge helps de-risk projects, and is an important part of the process that enables our member companies to deliver ever-safer and more cost effective projects for their clients.
Two workshops will follow, one on ‘Provision of breathing as to divers’ and the other on ‘Fibre ropes – development of IMCA guidance’.”Workshops are another important element in helping to deliver IMCA’s work programme,” explains Chris Charman.
The Section meeting closes at 15:00. Over 70 members and guests attended the last Asia-Pacific Section meeting in Singapore (5 November, the day before the 2013 IMCA Annual Seminar). The meeting included an interesting presentation o the work of the Singapore Workplace Safety & Health Council, as well as usual lively discussion on regional developments. The Asia-Pacific Section is one of five IMCA sections, the others being Central & North America; Europe & Africa; Middle East & India; and South America.
