Closer collaboration between IMCA and ICES

Two recent events have highlighted how the International Marine Contractors Association and the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (ICES) are working closely to promote the importance of hydrographic and civil engineering surveying in the marine environment and the competency of their respective members. Under the terms of the 2014 Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), signed by both organisations, offshore survey personnel who have completed competence portfolios based on the IMCA framework can use this as a demonstration of their competence for membership of ICES. New Technical Adviser Appointed at IMCA

John Bradshaw has joined the technical team at the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) as a Technical Adviser. Eight Technical Advisers work with the Association’s Technical Director, Technical Manager and technical committees from the global membership formulating IMCA’s work programme and developing guidance documents and reports aimed at increasing safety and efficiency within the industry. He will be joining on 1 October 2015 from Subsea 7 where he has been Senior VP for Engineering and Project Management. The CMID (Common Marine Inspection Document) Vessel Inspector Scheme has reached a milestone with the hundredth Vessel Inspector application having been received. The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has published revisions of two important diving publications – Diving Equipment Systems Inspection Guidance Note (DESIGN) for Mobile/Portable Surface Supplied Systems (IMCA D 040 Rev 1) and Mobile/Portable/Daughtercraft Surface Supplied Systems (IMCA D 015 Rev 1). IMCA publishes world-wide ROV statistics for 2014

The International Marine Contractors Association’s (IMCA) 2014 survey of remotely operated vehicle (ROV)s, and ROV personnel reveals that in February 2014 a total of 3,369 ROV personnel (superintendents, supervisors, pilot techs and other offshore ROV support personnel) were working, and in August the total figure was 3,617. The total number of ROVs in February was 677 and in August 726. These figures compare with 3,663 personnel in February 2013 and 3,962 in August 2013; and 580 ROVs in February 2013 and 636 in August 2013.
