Station keeping incidents reported for 2004
Summary
In total 34 reports were analysed, with a breakdown of 13 major position losses, 12 minor position losses and 9 lost time incidents. This shows the continuing trend of reducing DP incidents reported from its height of 110 in 2000 although the number of DP vessels is steadily increasing.
23 vessels provided data, which is a sharp reduction from previous years where between 35 and 40 vessels contributed. This gives an average of 1.5 reports per vessel, which is roughly consistent with previous years of 1.68 for 2002 and 1.42 for 2003. The same conclusions arise from this continuing trend as from previous years where the reduction in the number of reports is either a sign of good development and operation or a sign of poor commitment to reporting (or a bit of both).
