Six IMCA publications have been translated into Chinese and can be downloaded via the IMCA website, reflecting the increasing internationalisation of the association and the growing number of IMCA members working in the Asia-Pacific region. A competent workforce is a productive one, and operates with fewer risks, meaning shorter downtimes and fewer injuries. Effective competence schemes established by companies of all sizes ensure confidence in the offshore industry, and that all people appointed to safety-critical positions can carry out their jobs in an effective manner. The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has established a highly effective competence assurance and assessment framework, and as part of its Asia-Pacific Section meeting in Kuala Lumpur on Thursday 27 June will run a competence workshop, which is open to members and non-members alike. The next meeting of the International Marine Contractors Association’s Asia-Pacific Section will be held in Singapore, at Suntec Singapore, alongside the Seatrade Offshore Marine Asia Exhibition, on 26 April 2012. Following a brief members-only meeting, all are welcome from 10.30. During the morning there will be an IMCA world-wide update encompassing all activities – Competence & Training; Safety, Environment & Legislation; Diving, Marine, Offshore Survey and Remote Systems & ROV Divisions; an International Regulatory update and a presentation on DP annual trials from Ian Giddings of IMCA.
