eCMID celebrates landmark with 1,000th AVI accreditation application

IMCA and the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS) are celebrating the 1,000th Accredited Vessel Inspector (AVI) accreditation application.  IMCA’s eCMID system provides the offshore energy industry with standardised vessel inspections. Since its introduction, the electronic Common Marine Inspection Document (eCMID) has reduced the frequency, while improving the quality and consistency, of inspections.   Undertaken by IIMS recognised independent AVIs, the digital inspection reports are uploaded to a searchable online database via an IMCA developed App. Vessel operators can also share comments and provide additional supporting information to demonstrate how any inspection findings have been addressed.  IMCA Contact Mark Ford Marine

Technical concerns in eCMID vessel inspection analysis

New in-depth analysis on IMCA’s industry vessel inspection programmes, eCMID (Common Marine Inspection Document) and eMISW (Common Marine Inspection Document for Small Workboats), reveals ongoing concerns around technical inspections, the controlled entry into confined spaces, cyber security, as well as defects to life-saving appliances. IMCA eCMID System Annual Report 2022/23 (M 262) analysed the 1,539 reports on vessel inspections undertaken and uploaded to the eCMID database between April 2022 and April 2023, finding common themes and areas of particular focus. Of the 761 eCMID inspections, around 10% did not have a technical inspection carried out by the vessel operator, 9%

New Analytics Hub for eCMID Vessel Inspection Data launched

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has launched a new analytics hub within its eCMID System for vessel inspections, available at www.ecmid.com. The system provides real-time reports based on anonymised aggregate data from over 1100 inspections of offshore vessels and workboats undertaken using the latest eCMID and eMISW templates since May 2021 – a number which will only increase, as the system will track use across future versions of the templates. The default report, which can be filtered by date and vessel type, identifies the questions and sections resulting in the highest proportion of findings during inspections. This will allow

Ensuring eCMID and eMISW inspection integrity

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA)’s Marine eCMID Committee considered the potential for remote vessel inspections at its December 2020 meeting, in light of ongoing restrictions at both national and company level due to COVID-19 that can limit both vessel access and the movement of accredited vessel inspectors (AVIs).The Committee determined that remote inspections using the eCMID/eMISW inspection templates would not be appropriate.  Some of the issues identified include:Connectivity and bandwidth issues. Time required of vessel crew and inspectors, and the quantity and complexity of information that would need to be transmitted and reviewed. The practical format of the inspection

IMCA to withdraw classic Windows eCMID Application

The International Marine Contractors Association’s (IMCA) eCMID system provides the marine and offshore industry with standardised formats for vessel inspection. Since its inception it has consistently evolved enabling Accredited Vessel Inspectors (AVIs) to use current devices to ensure a user-friendly effective solution. In July 2020 IMCA launched a new, cross-platform eCMID Inspection App that has proved so successful that its predecessor, the classic Windows application, will be withdrawn at the end of 2020.The app, available via any modern browser, mirrors the features of the existing Windows application and allows AVIs to complete and submit inspection reports electronically while on site.

IMCA launches progressive web app for eCMID

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) announces the launch of its Progressive Web App (PWA) for its Common Marine Inspection Document system.IMCA’s eCMID system provides the marine and offshore industry with standardised formats for vessel inspection. It offers a safety management system (SMS) ‘health check’ and can help improve the quality and consistency of inspections, as well as reducing the frequency of inspections on individual vessels through the adoption of a commonly recognised inspection process. This new eCMID inspection app has been through a rigorous testing process with a group of accredited vessel inspectors (AVIs). The app mirrors the features of

New Feature for IMCA’s eCMID Ensures Usefulness for Clients

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has introduced a new feature to their eCMID website to enable vessel operators to upload additional documents that may be of interest to their clients. As IMCA’s Technical Director, Mark Ford explains: “This new feature, which is optional, ensures that eCMID is part of a broader vessel assurance system. As such it will now also give clients access to Annual DP Trial reports; Failure Modes and Effects Analyses (FMEAs); DESIGN (Diving Equipment Systems Inspection Guidance Notes); and other relevant documents, alongside the existing eCMID and eMISW inspection reports. “This is one of a range

IMCA Warns Against Offline Use of eCMID System

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has issued a notice setting out the benefits of eCMID, its online vessel inspection system, and warning users that offline use is no longer permitted. Since 1 January 2018, IMCA has only recognised formal inspection reports conducted using its eCMID application and uploaded into the database website (www.imcaecmid.com). Any eCMID reports that are not uploaded to the database are not considered to be authorised vessel inspection reports. IMCA’s Technical Director, Mark Ford sets the scene, and provides a summary of the key benefits of the online eCMID system over the traditional offline approach: “The
