Presenting eCMID to the IMO

IMCA’s Technical Manager, Mark Ford, and the Chairman of eCMID Committee, Stephen Birt, gave a presentation on ‘IMCA eCMID – An Independent ISM Health Check for your Ship’, to the International Marine Organization’s Maritime Safety Committee on 21 May. The presentation covered the importance of eCMID to provide a regular health check on a vessel’s Safety Management System. New funding arrangements for IMCA eCMID system

Dear colleagues, We are making improvements to the eCMID vessel inspection database in response to the marked increase in use of the offshore vessels’ inspection scheme. Over 2,300 vessels from more than 1,000 owners and operators are now listed on the eCMID database, and this is consulted by more than 3,800 users each year. The number of Accredited Vessel Inspectors (AVIs) using the scheme is growing and should expand further under the AVI eCMID scheme run by the International Institute of Marine Surveying (IIMS). Although the service has to date been provided completely free to the industry by IMCA, the

Busy spring for IMCA with an extensive seminar and workshop programme

During 2016 the International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) announced it had changed its seminar strategy, replacing the traditional large annual event with a series of highly focused technical seminars. These proved very successful, and a commitment was made to build on this strategy in 2017. This has resulted in seven events being scheduled for spring 2017. “Our niche events are tailored to tackle specific topics, bringing together subject matter specialists to discuss solutions to industry issues,” explains Richard Benzie, IMCA’s Technical Director. The Spring 2017 events will be held in London, Stavanger and Amsterdam. Four of the seven events relate

Change in Concept of Operation of IMCA’s eCMID system

To say that there is a burden of over-auditing on the International Marine Contractors Association’s (IMCA) vessel operators is without doubt. In an effort to reduce this burden IMCA intends to improve the integrity and quality of their Common Marine Inspection Document system (CMID) by adopting a greater degree of oversight of the system. This will enable greater cooperation with the Offshore Vessel Inspection Database (OVID). The Accredited Vessel Inspector (AVI) scheme is already proving successful, and changes will be made that ensure that by January 2018 only AVIs are able to use the eCMID database and only eCMID reports,
