Dear Members,
Welcome to this April edition of Making Waves.
Last month I opened with the headwinds facing our industry, and these have certainly not weakened. We see that many companies are now making decisions and taking actions in organising themselves for the continuation of this disruption.
We have done likewise at IMCA, and continue to support our Members in the best way possible – that is by getting on with the job of improving performance in our industry. Our committee work and documentation work continues unabated, and we will take the opportunity during this lockdown to review our entire library of guidance documents.
Our remote working regime is proving very effective and I feel confident that we will achieve many of the goals we have set ourselves for this year. For instance, the rollout of our diving supervisor CPD App is now happening. We have around 300 supervisors who pre-registered for the App, who we are bringing online in a phased manner. We have also been very busy working with the IMO and many other related associations, such as the International Chamber of Shipping, to try and unlock the vessel crew-change situation, which is affecting the whole general shipping world as much as our sector of industry. Progress is being made, but will require significant international cooperation to establish a global solution.
In accordance with our constitution, at the IMCA board meeting in March we saw Iain Grainger, having completed his two-year term of office, stand down as President and Chairman of IMCA. Pieter Heerema, VP Projects at Allseas, now becomes IMCA’s new President and Chairman of the Board, and Jonathan Tame, VP of UK & Canada at Subsea 7, becomes the new IMCA Vice President. I would like to thank Iain for his wise counsel and tremendous contribution to IMCA over the last two years and look forward to Pieter Heerema continuing this energy and leadership in the next two years ahead. At the same time Jonathan Kennefick joins the Board from McDermott International.
Thank you for your support to IMCA, keep safe and stay well.
Allen Leatt, IMCA Chief Executive
